SIR - I was so saddened to read the announcement of the death of Steve Cutmore (WHT February 4).

He was such a gentleman with a lovely family who will miss him so much.

The Hatfield Hyde Cricket Club owes a lot to his outstanding cricket ability and social support, pleasures that he passed on to his sons.

I am proud to have known him and his family and feel sure that he is now bowling them over 'up there'.

He would certainly have been very happy to have made it to 88 before facing the raised index finger!

May God Bless him.

S Stevens, Birds Close, WGC.
