SIR - Having already ransacked the eastern environs of the Garden City for its gravel, I see that the LaFarge moguls are hoping to double their money by taking advantage of the Government's requirements for more housing with a proposal to build 4,000 homes on the land they have laid to waste.

Their intent may be naked, but their methods are devious. On their proposal map, the development comes right up to the boundaries of Welwyn Hatfield's Commons Local Nature Reserve, yet LaFarge conveniently fails to show our reserve at all.

If LaFarge so arrogantly disregards our community, this proposal should be thrown out with equal contempt.
