Sir - Following the letter concerning club activities for people 'of the third age' (WHT, January 21), I feel that I must elaborate on the Friendship Club as the writer was too modest to do so.
The club was formed over 40 years ago and quickly became a registered charity for the benefit of the senior citizens in Welwyn.
Its constitution permits a few associate members, visitors and helpers living outside the area, and/or the age range. In fact, we have entertained visitors in their teens and onwards. Depending on the number of members present they choose to play whist (we have no experts) bingo, card games, dominoes or anything else that they choose if space and time is available. Some come along just to talk to their friends!
Of course, we have other functions. This year we are planning five coach outings to places suggested by the members, a special tea at Christmas and a lunch around Eastertide.
So why not stir and enjoy yourself on a Monday afternoon, 2 to 4pm in the large hall in the Civic Centre, in the centre of the village to find out for yourself just how enjoyable it can be. Contact George on 01438 714859 for even more information.
George Cubitt, chairman.
