Wonder Woman scenes filmed in Hatfield

After stealing the show in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Wonder Woman gets her own movie starring Gal Gadot in the title role.

Scenes of the blockbuster, which opens at UK cinemas today (June 1), were shot at Hatfield House last year, with the Hertfordshire stately home’s distinctive Long Gallery, with its gold leaf ceiling, featuring in the film’s trailer.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gabot as Amazonian princess Diana Prince and Star Trek Beyond’s Chris Pine as US spy Steve Trevor.

Diana lives on the island of Themyscira under the rule of her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen).

She is trained in hand-to-hand combat by her aunt, General Antiope (Robin Wright), unaware of her destiny in the long-running battle with the god of war, Ares.

US Army Captain Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crash-lands his plane during the First World War and Diana rescues him from a watery grave.

He tells Diana about the ongoing conflict with the Germans, whose forces are marshalled by iron-fisted General Erich Ludendorff (Danny Huston).

Horrified by the consequences for mankind, Diana leaves her home to help end the war, armed with magical artefacts including a fiery lasso and impenetrable shield.

Working with Steve and his plucky secretary Etta Candy, played by The Office’s Lucy Davis, Diana heads to the front flanked by Steve’s shady associates.

Wonder Woman joins a long list of films to have been shot on location at Hatfield House.

Paddington, The King’s Speech, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, Sherlock Holmes 2 – Game of Shadows, Mr Holmes and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 are among the movies shot at the stately home.

Tom Hardy’s recent BBC One series Taboo was also filmed at Hatfield House.

And the first series of award-winning Netflix hit The Crown was also partly filmed on location at the Jacobean mansion.
