The Luna Cinema has revealed the dates and locations for its 2015 shows, its largest ever season of outdoor screenings in the UK.

Thousands of cinema-goers across the country will pull up a blanket to watch films including Notting Hill at Kensington Palace, Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves at Warwick Castle, Grease at Ascot Racecourse and Jaws at Brockwell Lido.

Now in its seventh season, the company has expanded its reach to 120 screenings – up from 70 last summer – and will for the first time put on a truly nationwide programme, reaching far beyond London to Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Wight.

Running from May to October, venues this year range from stately country homes to botanical gardens to 10th century castles, in addition to more urban settings such as the rooftop of London’s One New Change in the heart of the City.

There are several new venues on the Luna bill, among them Cardiff Castle, Powderham Castle in Devon, and Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.

Highlights from the Hertfordshire programme include the Frozen Sing-along at Knebworth House, which will host a crowd of 2,500, screenings of Grand Budapest Hotel, The Goonies and Dirty Dancing at Hatfield House, and Top Gun at Highfield Park in St Albans.

Knebworth House will also play host to huge screenings of Back to the Future and musical Mamma Mia! in September.

Meanwhile, premium ticket-holders at Brockwell Lido, the stunning open-air swimming pool in South London, will have the unique opportunity to watch Jaws from an inflatable dinghy in the water.

George Wood, the founder of The Luna Cinema, said: “When I produced my first open air cinema screening in 2008 in Dulwich Park, I had no inkling that open air cinema would ever become so popular in Britain.

“People told me I must be bonkers for investing in an outdoor screen given the unreliability of our weather.

“Seven years and thousands of screenings later, any doubts have long since evaporated.

“The British public have proven that they are more than willing to brave the elements to enjoy a much-loved film under the stars.”
