The twinkle-toed talent from Tewin, Hertfordshire, avoided the dance-off in tonight’s (Sunday’s) Strictly Come Dancing results show – the sequel to Saturday’s Hollywood-themed Movie Week episode.

Instead, it was Jennifer Gibney and Simon Webbe who failed to make the cut and had to perform again, with the judges saving the Blue pop singer.

Taking to Twitter tonight (Sunday) Jenny Gibney (@JennyGibney) tweeted: “So that’s that, thank you to everyone who voted for us, best of luck to all the other dancers love you all xxx”

After the result was announced, Jake Wood (@mrjakedwood) tweeted a picture of himself with the Mrs Brown’s Boys star, with guest judge Donny Osmond in the background.

Jake, who plays Max Branning in BBC One soap EastEnders, scored 40 points out of a possible 50 from the five judges on Saturday’s live programme.

He danced a mean and moody waltz with professional partner Janette Manrara to music from The Godfather.

Their performance was the joint fourth highest score of the night, with Frankie Bridge topping the judges’ leaderboard after receiving a season first 10 from Donny Osmond, and 45 points in total.

Former Strictly pro James Jordan was still impressed with Jake’s performance last night and Janette’s choreography.

Tweeting his critique, @The_JamesJordan wrote: “Jake Using his acting skill well at the beginning. Dramatic waltz makes a change and I quite like it.”

He added: “Great job again this week... But needed to drive more and move around the floor. Too stiff, but liked it. Great acting. 6 or 7”

Ola Jordan’s husband also tweeted: “@JManrara is doing a great job this year. Loving her work!”

After the viewers’ votes had been added to the judges’ leaderboard, Mrs Brown’s Boys actress Jennifer Gibney and Blue pop star Simon Webbe found themselves in the bottom two and facing the dreaded dance-off to avoid elimination.

Jennifer’s foxtrot with Tristan MacManus to Abba’s Mamma Mia fell flat with the judges on Saturday night, scoring just 23, while Simon’s spot in the bottom two was something of a shock after scoring 30 points.

Injured Strictly pro Robin Windsor (@Robinwindsor) tweeted this evening (Sunday): “@KRihanoff and @simonwebbe1 in the bottom 2..... I almost spat my tea out!!! Speechless! Just speechless!”

However, the panel, including guest judge Donny Osmond, voted to keep Simon and Kristina Rihanoff in the competition after they performed a rumba to Berlin’s Take My Breath Away from the film Top Gun.

His Blue bandmate Antony Costa (@AntonyCosta) tweeted after the show: “So happy that @simonwebbe1 was saved. Our boy has worked so hard and we love you #scd”

Following Jennifer’s exit from the BBC One show tonight (Sunday), the remaining celebrities in the competition are Alison Hammond, Caroline Flack, Frankie Bridge, Jake Wood, Judy Murray, Mark Wright, Pixie Lott, Scott Mills, Simon Webbe, Steve Backshall, Sunetra Sarker, Thom Evans and Tim Wonnacott.

Snake-hipped salsa sensation Jake thanked the public for keeping him on Strictly for another week.

Taking to Twitter after the show, Jake (@mrjakedwood) tweeted: “Thank you from me and @JManrara to everyone who picked up the phone and voted tonight. You guys rock #StrictlyComeDancing #HisNameIsJake”

* Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday, October 18 at 6.30pm.
