EastEnders actor Jake Wood should be safe from the Strictly Come Dancing week four dance-off tonight (Sunday) after topping the judges’ leaderboard with his superb jive.

The twinkle-toed talent from Tewin finished joint top of the judges’ leaderboard alongside TV presenter Caroline Flack in Saturday night’s live show on BBC One.

The top two couples both scored 33 from the judges, for 13 points, which will be added to the viewers’ votes in tonight’s (Sunday’s) Strictly results show.

The bottom two will then have to dance again, with the judges deciding who leaves the competition.

SCD 2014 favourite Jake, who plays womaniser Max Branning in Albert Square, should be safe from the dreaded dance-off in tonight’s programme, with Scott Mills, Tim Wonnacott and Judy Murray in the bottom three with the judges last night.

The 13 remaining Strictly couples performed a selection of ballroom and Latin routines on Saturday night, hoping to win over the judges and audience and make it one step closer to the final.

Father-of-two Jake Wood was the second to last celebrity to take to the dance floor, tackling the jive in the Week Four live show.

The snake-hipped EastEnders star and professional dance partner Janette Manrara performed a high tempo jive to All Shook Up by Elvis Presley.

Before the show Jake – @mrjakedwood on Twitter – tweeted: “Me & @JManrara really looking forward to our jive tonight. Gonna jive like me life depends on it“

And the pair once again impressed the judges, scoring 33 out of a possible 40, with Darcey Bussell awarding them the first nine of the night to go with eights from fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli.

The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge and pro Kevin Clifton had earlier kicked off proceedings with a fantastic Cha Cha to Carly Rae Jepson’s Call Me Maybe.

They received straight eights from the judges, but their high score of 32 was topped, not once, but twice by the end of the night.

Penultimate pair Jake and Janette performed an energetic, rock ‘n’ roll-inspired jive that had the audience on their feet. Bruno Tonioli described Jake as being “pumped-up like a prizefighter”.

They were matched by last couple Caroline and Pasha Kovalev’s quickstep to We Go Together from musical Grease. This time Len awarded a nine.

The judges weren’t so generous to antiques expert Tim Wonnacott and Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills.

Tim and Natalie Lowe’s Paso Doble scored just 19, with Bruno saying that Tim “looked less raging bull and more mildly irritated goat”.

Meanwhile, Scott and Joanne mustered a paltry 15, the lowest score of the series, for their American Smooth, with Craig awarding a score of just two.
