The American thrash metal veterans brought this year’s Sonisphere rock spectacular to a climax in Knebworth Park with their ‘By Request’ set chosen by ticket holders.

A week after silencing their Glastonbury critics, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo made their third UK Sonisphere appearance on the closing Sunday night.

Opening with Battery, their set featured classic tracks such as Master of Puppets, Ride The Lightning, The Unforgiven, Fuel, Creeping Death, One, Nothing Else Matters and the band’s global smash hit Enter Sandman.

The set also included a performance of the band’s new song Lords of Summer, Metallica’s cover of Whiskey in the Jar, Sad But True, Fade to Black, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Blackened and Seek and Destroy.

Fans can now buy individual MP3s of live tracks from the band’s July 6 festival performance at Knebworth or the whole Knebworth concert.

The entire By Request European tour, including Metallica’s date at Glastonbury, is now available to download from www.livemetallica.com
