St Mary the Virgin and All Saints, in The Walk, is to open its doors to the public to mark the centenary of its consecration.

Vicar Peter Bevan said: “The church was consecrated on June 12, 1915 and our celebrations will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday.”

During the weekend there will be a Flower Festival with art and history displays in the church.

In addition, on Saturday there will be a ‘Songs of Praise’ service at 3pm, followed by a strawberry tea.

Vicar Peter Bevan said: “Our main celebration will be on Sunday, June 14 at 11am, when the new Bishop of Hertford, the Rt Revd Dr Michael Beasley, will be joining us to celebrate and preach at a Festival Eucharist.

“This service will be followed by lunch in the church hall.

“We do hope that people will be able to join us at some stage over this weekend.”

He added: “During the Flower Festival we will be inviting donations towards two causes – the St Mary’s Organ Fund and The Jerusalem and Middle East Church Association.

“We look forward to seeing you at our centenary weekend celebrations.”

If you would like to make a donation towards this centenary appeal, cheques should be made payable to ‘The PCC of Potters Bar’.
