The March concert at Friends Meeting House this evening (Sunday) will feature one of the venue’s most popular contributors presenting ‘A Banquet of Cellists’, with a pianist and a guitarist thrown in just for good measure.

Joely returns with some of her students from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire for what promises to be a spectacular multi-cello experience, with up to 10 cellists appearing on stage together.

Each of her students will be performing short solo pieces, by composers such as Bach, Hindemith, Crumb and Ligeti, and there will also be more substantial pieces by Gnattali, Shostakovich and Martinu, accompanied by piano or guitar.

And, then in the second half, the cellists join together for some fun performances of more popular pieces.

In various combinations, they will include new arrangements by the students of folk songs from Georgia and Bosnia, Joplin’s The Entertainer – on tour, Pharrell Williams’ Happy, Boston’s More Than a Feeling, Rihanna’s Don’t Stop the Music and more.

A Friends Music spokesman said: “Do come early to secure a seat for what is sure to be a very well attended evening.”

Admission to the concert in Handside Lane, which starts at 6pm, is free and it will be in aid of ADD-vance.
