Talented trio The Trials of Cato have been hugely inspired by world travels, particularly a year in Lebanon where they honed their sound from a hybrid of traditional influences.

Since returning to the UK they have been performing tirelessly, earning a reputation for shows that “stun audiences wherever they play”.

A native Gaelic speaker with a style rooted in her indigenous language and culture, Skye musician and piper Brìghde is one of Scotland’s fastest rising stars, with performances at a host of major festivals last summer.

First coming to popular attention in 2016 as winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, Brìghde was also nominated for Scots Trad Music ‘Up and Coming’ Award in 2017.

A spokesperson for FBTO said: “Our Acorn Stage has always been a place to showcase incredible new talent, so we are thrilled that The Trials of Cato, one of the most exciting discoveries on the UK folk circuit today, will be joining us in July.

“We are also delighted to announce Brìghde Chaimbeul, accompanied by the renowned Scottish fiddle player Aidan O’Rourke of Lau, will also be joining the Acorn Stage line-up.

“We highly recommend that anyone joining us on July 14 makes sure they catch these incredible acts!”

The latest festival additions will join Elephant Sessions and Grace Petrie on the smaller Acorn Stage in the Queen Elizabeth Oak Field.
