WGC 2nds fell to a six-wicket defeat against a strong-looking Luton Town & Indians outfit on Saturday.

This was despite a magnificent batting performance from 15-year-old Alex Chalker whose 86-

run innings gave the visitors some sort of total to chase.

On a greenish wicket at Digswell Park, WGC were put into bat and immediately ran into trouble losing five wickets for 41 in only 12 overs.

But skipper Steve Willis and Chalker added 118 runs in a vital stand, with the youngster dominating in a 90 minute innings.

When Chalker was dismissed with the score on 159, there were only three overs left and WGC could add only another 11 runs.

Willis was left not out on 36 as two more wickets fell cheaply.

Ed Tucker, in his first game of the season, bowled a long spell of 19 overs conceding little to take 1-68, with 20 of these runs coming from his last three overs.

Ian Fitzgerald once again underlined his improvement with 1-33 from nine overs of spin, but despite losing the prolific Page cheaply the visitors got home with nearly five overs to spare.

Luton Town & Indians will no doubt prove to be a strong force in Division Two of the Saracens Herts Cricket League this term.
