WELWYN Garden City Under-14s stayed top of the MHRML Division One table after their 3-2 win against East Herts.

City battled hard against their second-placed rivals East Herts in a nail-biting match on Sunday.

Scoring 10 minutes into the first half, East Herts put the pressure on the Citizens.

Welwyn kept up the pace and were rewarded when Ross Evans netted a tremendous equaliser.

East Herts knew they had a fight on their hands and took the lead again just before the end of the first period.

Coming out in the second half, spurred on by manager Mark Nott, WGC battled back.

A Ross Evans cross from the left was met by Callum Howell, who ploughed the ball into the back of the net to level.

East Herts continued to put the pressure on.

However, the City boys secured the win with a short pass from Callum Howell to Mickey Hetherington, who chipped the ball into the goal.

An outstanding partnership by Harry Butrimus-Gair and Chris Gray kept the midfield tight.

Sam Hale was man of the match for his consistent and fast- paced performance in defence.
