OLYMPIC medal hopeful Victoria Pendleton added to her list of world titles in Manchester last night (Thursday).

Stotfold cyclist Pendleton teamed up with Shanaze Reade to win the women's team sprint title at the UCI World Track Championships.

Reade and Pendleton, the golden girl of British cycling after winning three world titles in Mallorca last year, successfully defended their crown in front of home support at the Manchester Velodrome.

The British pair even set a world best in the qualifiers en route to the final.

Foo Fighters fan Vicky, 27, and BMX champion Shanaze comfortably beat China's Jinjie Gong and Lulu Zheng in the ride-off for the gold medal.

The British pair were marginally down on the first lap of the 250 metre track.

But Pendleton, who went to Fearnhill School in Letchworth and was a regular on the grass-track racing scene in Herts during her younger days, put her foot down in the last lap to ensure GB took the gold medal again.

Pendleton, who recently posed nude on a bike for a cover shoot, had a disappointing time at the Athens Olympics four years ago but will go to Beijing this year as one of the favourites in the sprint disciplines.
