HATFIELD speedway rider Robert Mear made a winning start with Rye House Silver Ski Rockets in the Premier Trophy on Easter Monday.

In their first fixture to be completed, previous ones had been called off and abandoned, the Hoddesdon outfit beat Mildenhall Fen Tiger 59-33.

New boy Mear looked at home in the reserve berth.

The 19-year-old produced a sharp performance to win heat two.

He finished the day with four rides and accumulated vital points to do his bit for the side.

Rye House are next in action tomorrow night (Wednesday) when they travel to King's Lynn in the Premier Trophy.
