Pirton 122-10 Welwyn Garden City 4ths 121-10

WGC 4ths suffered a heartbreaking one-run defeat at Pirton in Herts Division 11 on Saturday.

This was a classic case of defeat being snatched from the jaws of victory as WGC dramatically collapsed with the win only a few runs away.

Seven of the home team's batsmen scored less than four as Pirton were bowled out for just 122 in 36.5 overs.

Ian Tanner took a couple of wickets and James Sumpter three.

But it was Luke Whiley (4-14) with four wickets in only five overs that brought about a collapse from 112-6 and 122 all out.

Chasing such a modest target should have been a formality for the Digswell Park side.

However, not to be outdone by Pirton's demise, WGC suffered an ever worse collapse to lose by just a single run.

After losing early wickets, Leslie Meyer, Andrew Emerton and Dan Byford (38) put the visitors in a comfortable position, needing eight runs for victory with four wickets in hand.

Disappointingly, the four wickets could only add six runs as Pirton's Laskowski took them all in a match-winning two over spell.
