WGC Under-14s remain unbeaten and on top of the league after defeating fellow high-fliers Broxbourne last Thursday.

The East Herts hosts won the toss and asked WGC to bat.

After the loss of an early wicket, Luke Walsh (13) and Liam Mitchell (22) repaired the damage.

But with the overs running out, a brilliant innings of 50 not out from Alex Chalker was required to get Welwyn Garden to a respectable 115 in their 20 overs.

The home side were never allowed to get going due to some outstanding opening bowling from Andrew Bacon and Bobby Debaere. They claimed a wicket each.

With Liam Mitchell taking 1-9, David Nolan 1-12 and Chalker 3-13, backed up by tremendous team spirit, Broxbourne could only reach 65-8 to leave the visitors victorious.

WGC's U11s visited Broxbourne on the same evening and came away with a nail-biting victory.

The visitors restricted the home side to 77-4 off 20 overs, thanks to two wickets apiece for Harry Tann and Robert Wells.

But in reply WGC slumped to 16-4 after eight overs.

However, a marvellous captain's innings of 27 not out from Taylor Weeks, with support from Tom Parker (8) and Josh Davies (5 not out), saw WGC home with only two balls to spare.
