WGC bowlers beat Hemel Hempstead overall

WGC Bowls Club beat Hemel Hempstead over the Bank Holiday weekend by 124 shots to 111. In the men s match, WGC lost by three rinks to one and by 89 shots to 83. The Digswell Park club s top rink was that of Colin Avery, David Hegarty, Richard Middlewood

WGC Bowls Club beat Hemel Hempstead over the Bank Holiday weekend by 124 shots to 111.

In the men's match, WGC lost by three rinks to one and by 89 shots to 83.

The Digswell Park club's top rink was that of Colin Avery, David Hegarty, Richard Middlewood and Gordon Avery.

However, WGC won on both ladies' rinks and by 41 shots to 22 to claim the overall spoils.

The club's top women's rink consisted of Norma Cox, Elaine King and Ruby Avery.

WGC narrowly lost to Much Hadham Eagles on both rinks by two shots overall in the East Herts League.

Dave Hegarty, Don Cox and Alan Cox lost on the last end to go down 17-16.

Gordon Tamckin, Dave Rathbone and Doug King were also beaten in a close match 18-17.

There were also defeats for WGC A and B in the Welwyn Hatfield League.

WGC A lost to Avdel overall on the last end by one shot.

Ernie Reed, Tony Hughes and Allan Budge won 25-17 but Brenda Hughes, Ray Avery and Richard Griffiths lost 23-14.

The overall score was close with Avdel winning 40-39 and by four match points to two.

WGC B lost their Welwyn Hatfield League game to Shamrock.

David Hegarty, Gordon Tamcken and Tony Plummer were beaten 19-13 and George McKernon, Roy Kingham and Brian Hewitt lost 25-9.

That meant Shamrock collected all six match points.

Richard Griffiths also lost to John McCrossan 21-11 in the semi-finals of the Welwyn Hatfield Jock Hunter singles.
