THERE was one WGC game that beat the rain on Saturday.

However, the Digswell Park club's 5th XI slipped to an eight-wicket defeat to Preston 3rds in Division 13 of the Saracens Herts Cricket League.

The all-weather pitch at Sherrardswood School enabled the rain-sodden game to continue and captain Kevin Hyatt was anxious that his side picked up more than the 10 points for an abandonment.

However, the WGC skipper was thwarted in this aim.

Although his side batted reasonably well to add 181 runs, with Huw Thomas scoring 48 and Andrew Bacon 37, his bowlers found the increasingly wet ball more and more difficult.

The visitors in reply raced home after losing only two wickets, to secure a comprehensive eight-wicket victory.
