The cyclo-cross season's events were completed last Sunday with the Eastern League fun event near Colchester followed by an awards presentation.

The wet day did not deter Welwyn Wheelers’ Joe Kiely in the U12 race.

Kiely was in a two-man leading duo for the opening laps and then rode away for a clear win in the final lap.

The youth race contained four Wheelers riders, with Ollie Stockwell claiming “ride of the day”.

He was brought down in a multi-rider crash 200m from the start, which put him in last place.

However, he fought back and worked his way through the field to finish in fourth place ahead of all but three U16 riders and top spot in the U14 category.

Elspeth Grace rode strongly to finish in sixth place and first U16 girl, while Lauren Higham was 10th and first U14 girl.

The last race of the day was a one hour relay for senior riders – Keith Stockwell, paired with a rider from Ipswich, finished in sixth place.

In the Hillingdon Slipstreamers circuit event last Saturday, Elspeth Grace was second in the U16 girls’ event, while Josie Griffin was first in the U14 girls’ race.

Toby Miles finished in an excellent third place in the youth race.
