Lauren Higham took the youth girls title, Oli Stockwell the youth boys’ and Joe Kiely the juvenile boys’ in the event held in Essex on Sunday.

Stockwell broke clear after two laps to win by over two minutes but Kiely had a much tougher battle.

After appearing to lose ground to rival Alex Dale of Lee Valley CC, he somehow fought back to set-up a finishing-straight showdown.

Such was their gap, they were able to slow to a standstill as each tried to force the other to the front.

Dale made the first move but Kiely came round in the last 50 metres to take the win.

Stockwell was in action the day before in the Eastern Counties 10 time-trial and by finishing in 21 minutes four seconds, he broke the Wheelers’ U16 record for a 10 mile ITT, previously held by Pete Bissell.
