Welwyn second out of three at Roebuck

WELWYN and District bowlers played at Roebuck in a unique three club match that also included Knebworth.

Each club played two mixed rinks against each of the other clubs.

The overall scores showed Knebworth on minus eight shots, Welwyn and District minus 10 shots, with Roebuck showing plus 18 shots.

Welwyn and District won on two of their rinks, drew on one and lost heavily on the other.

Their top rink was Chris Read, Daphne Pedder, Diana Tribe and Ken Perry, who won by 23 shots to 16.

Everyone had an enjoyable afternoon. In his post-match speech, Welwyn captain for the day John Lee said that Welwyn and District BC would be happy to host a similar format in 2009.

The second match held over the Bank Holiday weekend was a men's St Albans & District Rinks League held at Clarence Park, St Albans.

The Welwyn men won on all rinks, giving the away club 80 points. The overall score was 89-54.

Top rink for the visitors was Frank Crampton, Nigel Noel, Graham Hart and David Ratcliffe at 21-10.

Welwyn lost by 49 shots to 29 in the ladies' two rink match.
