Welwyn Pegasus U14 Royals are through to the quarter-final of the County Cup for the first time in five years thanks to a 3-0 home win against Wheathampstead Wanderers Sharks.
Welwyn suffered a blow early in the first half as they lost influential players Fin Wheeler and Conor Garrett to injury.
However, the Royals adapted well and managed to go into half time 2-0 up thanks to good finishing from centre back Tom Saunders and influential midfielder Joe Ashton, who scored from 20 yards.
The impressive Sharks goalkeeper pulled off some fantastic saves to keep his side in the game and his team-mates battled hard to prevent Pegasus form over-running them in what could have been a one-sided affair.
Unbelievable weather conditions in the second period put pay to any free-flowing football but it didn’t stop Pegasus’ Josh Staddon firing home their third goal of the afternoon.
