WELWYN & District BC's ladies lost to Barton-le-Clay by 18 shots in their first away match of the season.

Sue Larkins with Diana Tribe and Barbara Marvell won their game by 19 shots to 15 and were Welwyn's top triple.

The overall score was 79 shots to 61 to the Bedfordshire club.

Radlett were the visitors to Welwyn three days later in a four mixed triples match.

In dismal conditions, the hosts came out on top 75-60.

Success for the home side was largely due to the triple of Doris Atkins, Olive Perry and Ralph Pedder.

The trio showed no mercy to their opponents winning 34-11.

Success was also on the cards for the men of Welwyn & District, who won their first St Albans & District League match.

They saw off the challenge of neighbours Welwyn Garden City 97-55 at home, winning on all rinks for a maximum 80 points.

Top rink was Nigel Noel, Tony Holdcroft, John Lee and Brian Smith with a 28 shots to 10 victory.
