WELWYN & District Bowls Club's ladies lost at home in the National Top Club competition to Harperbury on Saturday.

The hosts won the singles and pairs, but were defeated in both the triples and fours.

Harperbury claimed the victory by a shot difference of eight, with an overall score of 77-69.

Lucy Ratcliffe won against Marge Luker 21-14 in the singles, while Sylvia Lane and Diana Barrett won the pairs against Judy Rayment and Jean Hubball 24-15.

The triples saw Doris Atkins, Dilys Hanson and Sue Larkins lose to Ivy Fennell, Joyce Terry and Sheila Roberts 24-17.

Pauline Ellis, Jillian Jennings, Sue Wingham and Jean Webb lost to J Gransby, Jean Wildman, Sheila Thorne and Judy West in the fours by 22 shots to seven.

Welwyn visited Three Horseshoes in a friendly last Wednesday.

Bob Wells captained a team of five mixed triples, winning by 80 shots to 73.

Top triple for Welwyn was Sybil Noel, Barbara Marvell and Ralph Pedder with a 26-8 win.

On Saturday Bob Wells captained a team of six mixed triples at Welwyn against Mill Hill, who beat the home team by 105 shots to 93.

Top triple for Welwyn was that of Olive Perry, Andy Scholes and Tony Holdcroft with a 24-13 result.
