Welwyn Garden City skier Elise Snow, bobsleigher James Odeniyi and sprinter Hannah Williams, along with Beaumont Diving Academy’s Olivia Reeve and five other new sporting teen protégés have been selected on this year’s Herts Talented Athlete Programme (HTAP).

Athletes from around the county in sports from bobsleigh to judo have been carefully picked to benefit from the University of Hertfordshire scheme which offers elite level services to the youngsters.

Nick Brooking, director of sport, said: “The university’s Sports Village is delighted to continue with the provision and management of the Herts Talented Athlete Programme and pleased that Lee Valley Regional Park will also support this programme again.”

The nine new athletes will join the programme with an existing 10 athletes receiving continued support.

The youngsters will benefit from strength and conditioning training with Performance Hertfordshire, help from the Bodybalance Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic, Herts Sports Village gym and pool use as well as workshops on such things as nutrition, sports psychology, anti-doping, performance lifestyle, recovery and media training.

There are a variety of reasons why each athlete was chosen.

Brooking added: “All have been selected because they are not just extremely talented and already at a high level in their sport, but also because they have evidenced they are prepared to work hard to improve and we believe the additional knowledge and expertise provided by our staff and services can really accelerate their development.”

The programme is seeking sponsorship from business or individuals interested in supporting young athletes in their development.
