WELWYN teenage golfer Tom Lewis is part of an England boys squad that will compete in a tri-angular tournament in South Africa next week.

The WGC Golf Club player is one of six young guns to be selected to represent his nation against hosts South Africa and Canada.

Players will battle it out at the Zubula Golf Club, near Pretoria, over three days from Tuesday to Thursday.

The round robin match play format will see six singles on day one, three foursomes on day two and six more singles on the final day.

Lewis, who is on the Herts Sports Partnership Elite Athletes Support Programme, is to be joined in the squad by Jonathan Bell, Tom Boys, Max Smith, Toby Tree and Liam Harper.

So far in his budding career Lewis finished runner-up to Boys in the Fairhaven Trophy and was tied third in the Brabazon Trophy.

That was a performance that earned him a share of the Henriques Salver for the best performance in the championship by a player aged under-20.

He also finished tied fourth in the Carris Trophy and was runner-up in the individual rankings in the Honda Junior Championship in Japan which England won.

Lewis made his England debut at boys level in the 2008 European Boys Team championships and is a member of the England U18 training squad.
