It wasn't quite high noon but there were plenty of personal duels going on in the latest round of races at Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club.

As the pursuit races unfolded it became clear that many of the dinghies were evenly-matched.

However, while the supernovas helmed by Alan Campbell and Dave Lambert were last to start, by the end of the first lap they had cut a swathe through the rest of the fleet.

That left early starters Al Jose, back for the winter sailing at Stanborough, battling with Alex Shelley for the remaining podium place.

Shelley with the standard comet sail did better upwind to prevail against Jose with the bigger battened sail which gave him the advantage downwind.

Campbell just pipped Lambert in both races to take top spot on the podium with Shelley in third.

Mike Caddy did much better in the stronger winds of the second race to secure fourth place.

In the quba fleet Nina Ferguson finished ahead of Francis Hansen.
