Archant

Welwyn Garden City men’s hockey 1sts fell to an opening-day league defeat against derby rivals Hertford as they went down 3-2 on Saturday.

Paul Kimber netted a brace for WGC against a side they had comfortably beaten in a friendly match two weeks earlier.

With a weakened team due to a few players being absent and a potentially stronger Hertford side, nothing was guaranteed.

And so it proved, as Herts neighbours Hertford ran out narrow winners in Division 3SW of the East Hockey League.
