Welwyn Garden City bowlers through to two finals

WGC Bowls Club are celebrating after reaching two finals.

The club beat North Mymms by 43 shots to 28 in the St Albans and District Jones Cup semi-final.

Tom Stevenson, Reg Collins, Mick Stephen and Ian Stone won 25-12.

Alan Cox, Allan Budge, Tony Parkhouse and Gordon Avery also won 18-16 in the away leg played at North Mymms.

WGC also beat Harpenden by 75 shots to 69 in the St Albans and District Bob Vise Trophy semi-final after the match was drawn two games each.

The triples saw Alan Cox, Reg Collins and Neil Sharp win 19-10.

Don Cox, Allan Budge, Tony Parkhouse and Gordon Avery won 19-12 in the fours.

Mick Stephen and Ian Stone lost the pairs 26-20 and Tom Stevenson lost 21-17 in the singles.

WGC won again in the County League last Tuesday evening, beating Hatfield by four match points to two.

Don Cox, Bryn Evans, Mick Stephen and Gordon Avery won 30-12 on the first rink.

But the second rink of Alan Cox, Tom Stevenson, Alan Evans and Tony Parkhouse lost 17-11. The overall score was 41-29.

WGC are third in the league and now play Oakhill in their last game on August 11.

Datchworth were beaten by WGC A by four match points to two in the Welwyn Hatfield League.

Tom Saggers, Ruth Brett and Richard Griffiths lost 20-18, but Ernie Reed, Ray Avery and Richard Middlewood won 20-15.

This gave an overall score winning score of 38-35 to round off a good week's action for WGC.
