Welwyn beat Mymms rivals

WELWYN & District Bowls Club's men defeated North Mymms 99-69 in the St Albans & District Rinks League.

The four rink match saw Welwyn win on two and lose on two, but they did enough to claim an overall victory.

Top rink for the visitors was Mike Rowland, Peter Wingham, Ralph Pedder and Bob Wells, who succeeded 28-13.

Also at Mymms in two ladies' rinks, the away side once again triumphed against their hosts.

The ladies won one rink and lost the other, winning overall by 46 shots to 39.

Welwyn's top rink was that of Joanna Clapham, Margaret Holdcroft, Betty Singleton and Mary Clements, who came out on top by 26-15.

Welwyn ladies also entertained three triples from Potters Bar.

This time they lost by 53 shots to 39.

Top triple for Welwyn was that of Gladys Tanner, Barbara Marvell and Jillian Jennings at 15-11.

Earlier, the club's ladies had played host to Hemel Hempstead in a three triple friendly.

Played in a good spirit, the home team won the fixture by 48-37.

Welwyn were victorious on two triples each by eight shots but lost the third.

The first winning triple was Pauline Ellis, Hazel Wing and Olive Perry with 18-10.

Second was that of Averil Balnaves, Daphne Pedder and Jillian Jennings at 19-11.
