WELWYN and District Bowls Club brought their season to a fitting climax with the finals of the Club Competitions.

Most encouraging was the presence of several new bowlers, who had joined earlier in the season after our recruiting drive.

Most impressive was Pat Thompson, new to bowls this year, who was on the winning side in two finals; firstly in the Orton Trophy where she partnered Barry Smith, and secondly in the Ladies Pairs where she was paired with Mary Clements as a result of Doris Atkins having to withdraw.

Also in the Ladies Pairs final and playing with Diana Barrett was our youngest lady bowler, Breanne Cook, also a newcomer to the club

For the men, Peter Townsend, new to bowls this year, lost to John Lee in the final of the Second Chance but had done very well to reach the final.

Gus Edwards, a new bowler last year, won the Dansie Cup against Sam Smith in a tie break.

With so many new bowlers appearing in the finals the future is looking good for Welwyn and District.
