Archant

A clean sheet was the cherry on top of the cake as Potters Bar picked up a welcome 3-0 victory in the East League Division Two South over Brentwood.

The Walk-based hockey club had gone into the game on the back of five-match undefeated run but that sequence had brought just one win.

They took a deserved lead midway through the first half, although in slightly bizarre circumstances.

Jon Elms produced a mesmerising run to beat player after player but as his shot was heading over the line, the umpire called played back for a foul and awarded a short corner.

From this Ajay Patel eventually put the ball home for his first goal in first-team colours.

George McConachie followed Patel’s lead by scoring his first goal to make it 2-0 and Mark Turpin completed the victory with the third.

The win lifts them to third in the table.
