WELWYN Warriors Lacrosse Club brushed aside Cambridge University 13-1 away in their SEMLA East Division One clash.

Roger Ball led the way with four goals in the first of two consecutive Varsity fixtures for Welwyn, with Steve Groves also netting three times.

Aaron Demant and Kyle Witt grabbed two goals apiece with singles from Hamish Tiley and Stuart Groves completing the rout.

Warriors started the game well and they had good periods of possession.

They had already established a 3-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Whilst dominating play, Warriors did not really start to click until the second quarter of the match.

A series of good moves extended the lead to 6-0 and they had other chances with the Cambridge keeper making some fine saves.

Cambridge improved in the second half, but solid defensive work enabled Welwyn to regain possession and by the end of the third quarter the game was effectively won with a 9-0 lead.

The Welwyn attack were on top for the majority of the last quarter, but full credit to Cambridge who continued to battle well and netted a well-worked consolation goal.
