Walking squash league is perfect for keeping fit and meeting new people says Hatfield septuagenarian Jon Wood

May is walking month in the Hertfordshire Year of Physical Activity and one Hatfield resident is ensuring that he is part of the action.

Jon Wood is edging towards his 75th birthday but decided to join the walking squash league at the Hertfordshire Sports Village where he recently played, and beat, Herts Sports Partnership director, John O’Callaghan.

Wood said: “I’m thoroughly enjoying being part of the walking squash league as it not only keeps me fit but gives me the opportunity to meet new people.

“As far as I’m concerned, it is never too late to be active and I feel so much better after a workout.”

O’Callaghan who founded the league said: “Jon is living proof that age need not be a barrier to physical activity.

“He is a wonderful example of a person who enjoys active ageing and is willing to have a go at new sports and physical activity pursuits.”
