Two students from the University of Hertfordshire have been selected for Great Britain’s canoe slalom teams.

After competitive trials, Kimberley Woods, who is a sports studies student at the Hatfield university, has been selected for the women’s Great Britain Senior and U23 World and European Championship Team in both the K1 (single kayak) and C1 (single canoe) disciplines.

And architecture student Thomas Abbott will also head to the championships in the C1.

Woods said: “It was a tough selection series but I was focussed on my processes. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my British Canoeing team at Lee Valley who helped me balance my studies to keep relaxed while I complete my final year.”

Abbott added: “It was a tough race this year with so much good competition, I’m glad that my commitment over the winter training paid off and I came out with a place on the team.”
