Hatfield Leisure Centre has relaunched its power-assisted gym suite.

Twelve exercise machines in the new look downstairs room provide a 36-minute circuit all body workout specifically designed for those who want to get some exercise, improve fitness, tone up and increase mobility.

Centre general manager Karol Butrimas-Gair said: “The suite is for for older people or those less able, it’s power assisted so it’s easier for them to use.

“It keeps users mobile, stops them stiffening up.

“We have differing abilities so we have some who are quite able, a gentleman who has had a stroke and he comes in on a regular basis, all sorts people who have knee or hip replacements and need to keep their joints moving, but can’t necessarily use the regular gym equipment.

“There aren’t any other of these suites in the area and only a few in the country.”

The machines take the strain making them ideal for rehabilitation.

“It’s a case of pressing a button and the machine moves and you move with it, but you can push as well to make it more challenging if you get to that point,” added Butrimas-Gair.

“It’s social in here too as it’s very friendly, some users meet here and them meet outside of the centre.”
