CYCLIST Emma Trott got her 2008 season off to a great start when she claimed the women's prize in Sunday's North Road Hardriders Time Trial.

The Team Halfords Bikehut rider recorded a time of 49 minutes 26 seconds, beating her nearest rival by almost three minutes.

Her time was good enough for her to claim 23rd place overall.

"Everything went to plan today," said teenager Emma afterwards.

"It would have been nice to get closer to 45 minutes, but it's the first race of the season and there will be other chances."

Emma will now join some of her team-mates in Liverpool for next week's Eddie Soens Handicap run on the Aintree Grand National Course before a final training camp in Wales as she continues to prepare for World Cup races in Italy and Belgium, including the prestigious Tour of Flanders.

Former Welwyn rider Emma said: "Although Italy will be my World Cup debut, I'm really excited about going to Flanders.

"I went and watched the race last year and rode some of the course. Now I'm going to get to do it for real.

"Also load of Brits go over to watch the race in Belgium, so hopefully we can give them something to cheer about.
