BOWLERS from North Mymms were defeated in the Maurice Watson Trophy 24-16.

The Mymms quartet of John Penfold, Geoff Matthews, Alan Barth and Martin Barson were drawn against the host club St Albans.

Following an even contest the Welham Green side fell away over the last few ends to eventually lose 24-16.

With representation from virtually all clubs in the district and the trophy awarded to the highest up winning rink, Townsend were the ultimate winners.

It was also a disappointment that the Owls were unable to field a team of any kind.

Early external competition rounds are being played off and in the National Over 55 Ladies' Pairs Pat Woods and Sylvia Kenyon won 20-17 at Oak Hill.

In the District Singles, Barry Paine overcame Harpenden's John Thompson.
