Triples triumph for Welwyn on their travels

BOWLERS from Welwyn & District BC enjoyed away success at North Herts.

The visitors won four triples and lost two in the six mixed triples match.

The overall result was a 112-89 triumph for the Ottway Walk club.

Top triple for Welwyn was that of Colin Duxbury, Barbara Marvell and Maurice Downing.

They won by 28 shots to six.

Welwyn played three rinks and two triples against derby rivals Northaw & Cuffley at home on Saturday.

The hosts were unfortunately defeated by 106 shots to 87.

Top triple for Welwyn was that of Mary Wills, Ivy Sykes and Ken Perry with a 21-18 win.

The victorious Welwyn rink of Frank Lane, Daphne Pedder, Olive Perry was skipped by men's captain Nigel Woor, who bowled the winning shot on the final end to win 18-17.

Welwyn visited Ware on a blustery but sunny afternoon on Sunday for a four men's and two ladies' rinks match.

The host club won by 18 shots in the four men's rinks with a score of 88-70.

Top scoring rink for the Welwyn men came from John Atkins, Gerald Papworth and skip Ted Webb, but this was supplemented by a Ware lady Maureen Littlechild.

The ladies lost by 43 shots to 36, although the team of Sylvia Hurrell, Hazel Wing, Sybil Noel and Skip Ivy Sykes managed a friendly draw at 17 apiece.
