TEWIN'S Olympic rower Tom Stallard and his men's eight colleagues have been handed a tough heat as they begin their quest for gold.

The GB medal hopefuls have been drawn against USA, China and Germany in their heat at Beijing's Shunyi Rowing-Canoeing Park on Sunday.

USA, gold medallists in Athens four years ago, once again look set to be one of the teams to beat, so will provide a big test for Stallard and the GB crew, including former Broxbourne schoolboy Acer Nethercott at cox.

The other heat sees reigning world champions Canada go head to head against Australia, Poland and the Netherlands.

Both heats winners will automatically book their place in the A final on August 17.

All the others will then battle it out in the repechage on Tuesday for the remaining A final spots and a chance to capture Olympic glory.
