WGC golf star Tom Lewis and the Great Britain and Ireland team will be gunning for Walker Cup glory against their American amateur counterparts this weekend.
The American’s have triumphed in the last three meetings between the two, so Lewis and his team-mates are in determined mood ahead of the event at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club.
Lewis, who was the highest placed amateur at this year’s Open Championship winning The Silver Medal, said: “I want to perform for myself and the team and my focus will be on my matches and nothing else.”
The Herts ace is confident GB&I can end the Americans’ successful streak.
“I would really want to be a part of a winning team and I feel the team can win,” he added.
“But we know the Americans are strong and we need to perform at our highest level which we know we can and have done throughout the year.”
Lewis is joined in the squad by Steven Brown, James Byrne, Paul Cutler, Alan Dunbar, Stiggy Hodgson, Rhys Pugh, Jack Senior, Michael Stewart and Andy Sullivan.
Nigel Edwards, captain of the GB&I team said last month: “I’m very pleased with the team that has been selected and I’m sure a number of players will be disappointed to miss out.
“These players represent the strongest group of amateur golfers that GB&I has to offer and I believe that we will do very well at Royal Aberdeen.”
