Tom Lewis scoops professional debut top 10 finish at Austrian Open

WELWYN Garden City golfer Tom Lewis began life as a professional by taking tied 10th place at the Austrian Open over the weekend.

The 20-year-old finished six-under-par after rounds of 74,70,70 68 at the Diamond Country Club.

Lewis’ display handed him his first winnings in the pro game, he collected €17,925.

He must earn around £200,000 from seven tournaments to avoid the usual route of becoming as professional player through the Qualifying School.

The Austrian Open was won by Englishman Kenneth Ferrie who overcame Simon Wakefield in a play-off to take the title.
