On hand to observe and offer hints at tips to young golfers from Mill Green's Tiger Club was Welwyn Garden City's professional Tom Lewis.

Forty budding golfers took part in the final of the Tiger Club Championships supported by Ping over the Romany Nine par-3 course last Tuesday.

The finalists, aged between five and 14, were treated to a wonderfully prepared course along with arrival gifts from Ping, marshaling from PGA professionals and county/England players and an inspiring golf clinic by 2011 Portugal Masters winner Tom Lewis.

Parents, grandparents and friends spectated making the feel of the tournament similar to a Professional event.

Tiger members certainly didn’t let the spectators down with some quite outstanding golf in all age categories.

As an extra incentive each age group winner won a day out in March at the magnificent London Club.

They also get to invite their parent/friend to enjoy this experience.

Qualifiers on the day included Esme Hume, Max Shirvell, Louis Densham, Finlay Craigmyle and Noah Hume.

George Nicholson collected the overall prize from WGC’s Tom Lewis with a brilliant round of 30.

Tiger parent Cassiem Jeppe said: “I would like to thank The Tiger Club for a wonderful day, complete with high standard of golf, professionalism, competitiveness, teaching and most importantly enjoyment for the children.

“Zainab had a day she still keeps on talking about it and this has contributed to her wanting to get out and practise more often.”

The day finished with Tom Lewis talking about his golfing journey with Ian Parker and Daniel Field followed by lots of fun and some outstanding striking of the ball by Lewis.

Afterwards the professional golfer spent more time giving every competitor a signed photo and answering lots of questions from the children.

Founder of the Tiger Club Ian Parker said: “I would like to thank Tom for taking time out of his busy schedule and delivering such a brilliant clinic.

“A special thank you must also go to John Pasby for all his attention to detail organising from start to finish”.
