THE Kinshou (kid's) Karate Tigers based in WGC and Letchworth schools of karate growled their way to success at their blue belt grading.

Students, some as young as four-years-old, had been practicing since April and all their hard work paid off.

Sensei Roy Hazelwood, 6th Dan chief instructor of Traditional Shotokan Karate Association of Great Britain, recently visited the WGC club to grade the beginners.

Wendy Hazelwood, club instructor, said: "The classes offer a regular routine and take all the fun elements of karate that little ones love, combining them with self-discipline and personal development at the right level."

Activities are varied in the sessions so students develop good manners, coordination, cooperation and communication skills.

"We use animal characters for further fun," said Wendy.

The four-year-olds are monkeys, four to five years are deers and the five to sixes are tigers.

"We always have two instructors and prefer small classes to individualise lessons.

"They've really progressed well in just a few months, they have fun and parents value the disciplined nature of our classes."

The classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Gosling Sports Park.
