Welwyn Garden City Hockey Club’s ladies had a disappointing weekend with only the third team managing a win.

The 1sts travelled to Tring hoping to maintain second spot in the 5 Counties Women’s Hockey League Premier Division.

But it was not to be as their lower placed opponents managed to secure a 2-1 win success.

Annabel Mabin got Welwyn’s only goal even though they dominated for the first 10 minutes of each half.

It was a game of two halves for the 2nds as they lost 4-2 to Broxbourne 3rds.

The first was the better one for Welwyn with goals from Kate Whiteland and Ellie Bonnet made it 2-2 at half-time.

However, Amy Hicks and an own goal ensured the 3rds got a deserved win 2-1 against Hertford 4ths.

Welwyn’s 4ths lost 11-0 to Luton 2nds, a score that doesn’t reflect the effort of the team of youngsters.
