PANSHANGER hockey ace Thaddeus Rivett was part of the Southgate Hockey Club side that claimed glory at the National U18 Indoor Championships.
The 17-year-old, who attends St Albans Boys' School, and his Southgate team-mates beat Bromsgrove School in the final on sudden- death penalty flicks.
More than 1,000 spectators watched the grand finale of the competition, which was played in front of Sky Sports TV cameras at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
After picking up his winners' medal Thaddeus, who plays in defence, said: "It was a good opportunity to produce a result in a highly prestigious tournament.
"The build up to the game was pretty tense, but we had a fantastic team spirit and all supported each other.
"We were confident that we could win as a team."
The WGC teenager added: "Walking onto the pitch was pretty awesome.
"During the game I managed to shut out the occasion and just concentrate on the match.
"The feeling of winning was unlike anything I had ever felt before.
"It took a couple of hours for it to sink in that we were national champions, and at this point I appreciated the greatness of our achievement."
Southgate had finished runners-up in the group stages to qualify for the semi-finals after winning two games and losing two. One of those defeats was a 5-1 mauling to Bromsgrove - the side they were to meet in the final.
The club from Middlesex came up against Sevenoaks in the last four and they beat the Kent club on penalty flicks after a 2-2 draw in normal time.
Southgate saw off Bromsgrove in the climax of the competition in penalty flicks 5-4 after they could not be separated at 4-4 at the full-time whistle.
