Tewin Cricket Club are on a roll right now as both the first and second teams won for the second successive Saturday.
The firsts made the journey west to face Redbourn 2nds and after losing the toss were put into bat.
James McMurray and Ben Sheppard got them off to a solid start and put together a 40-run opening partnership before McMurray fell for 19.
Sheppard played well but managed only one run more than his fellow opener and it was a classy innings from skipper Luke Wilde that was needed to really set up the innings.
Wilde hit 15 boundaries in an expansive knock of 82 off 71 balls before he departed with the score on 144-3.
Dan Smith and Pete Brooks both made good contributions before being dismissed and then Will Pickworth put on a fantastic 76 with Jamie Bryce.
After last week’s 79 not out, Pickworth was finally out this time for 84 from 93 deliveries in the penultimate over before some lusty blows from Bryce (23*) got Tewin up to a very good 272-7.
In response, some very tight bowling and fielding from Tewin put the pressure on Redbourn from the outset.
Mo Harihar picked up an early wicket and was ably supported by some tight bowling from Paul Shankster.
A rapid spell of bowling from Dan Smith really ramped up the pressure on the hosts before Wilde’s tight 10-over spell yielded only 40 runs.
Good bowling from Pickworth and McMurray, who both took 3-37, ensured Tewin secured the win with Redbourn finishing 56 runs short.
Three wins in a row have now lifted Tewin to second in Division Six A.
The seconds had just as good a victory in a low-scoring encounter with Old Albanians 4ths.
They were restricted to 135-9 in their 40 overs with 50 from Martin Tipper the highlight.
In response, two wickets in seven balls for Simon Douet (3-18) got Tewin off to the perfect start but a good partnership put OAs into what looked like a winning position at 77-2.
However, a brilliant fightback tipped the game back in Tewin’s favour.
Mark Bryce and Dom Taylor both got a wicket each before Tipper, the star of the day, took 4-24 in his eight overs.
Dennis Hill got the last wicket as OAs were all out for 120.
