Tennis ace Cox claims third singles title in five weeks by beating Hewitt

GOSLING Tennis star Dan Cox has secured his second pro men’s singles title in as many weeks, and third pro title in just five weeks.

In the Aegon GB ProSeries at Nottingham Tennis Centre at the weekend, Cox won the first set of the final 6-4, before his opponent 21-year-old Ashley Hewitt, 21, responded by winning the second set 6-3. Cox then took a decisive 3-0 lead, before claiming victory 6-4 3-6 6-1.

Two pro titles in eight days, should push Cox close to the top 400, and towards his career ranking of 258.

The 22-year-old’s mum and dad flew in in overnight from Tenerife [where they live] to watch the final.

Matt Wilcocks, director of tennis at Welwyn Garden City’s Gosling High Performance Tennis Centre where Cox trains, said: “Dan has been based with us for over a year now and is a member of our pro team.

“He has overcome a serious injury and with support from his coach Fran Ruis Lopez and his team is working increasingly hard and getting the results which is great to see.”
