WGC Hockey Club ladies 1sts managed to secure an away point in a 1-1 draw against Stevenage on Saturday in their latest East Division 2SW game.

The Dehavilland-based girls played well in the first half, but it was the same old story as a momentary lack in concentration allowed the hosts to take the lead.

Undeterred by the set-back, WGC came back strong and finished the half on top with near misses from Anna Geaves and Abbie Woodman.

Welwyn continued to press from the start of the second half and they were rewarded when Geaves’ shot was saved, but Shannon Tella was on hand to flick the ball in.

Tella nearly made it two, but her final shot flew wide of the post.

WGC’s defence held firm with Charlotte Honour having a good game, but they were just unable to find that elusive winner which would have helped in their fight to avoid relegation. Their final game against St Albans is their last chance.
